Alright! This blog is like the ground after a great big snowfall: All calm and ready for me to piss my name on it!
So another season begins. I'm glad to see that there are even more poolies from the Centre of the Universe this year. Sure, most of them are from Winnipeg originally, but they had the good sense to get the hell out of there. (This is a good sign that they'll make it through the next evolutionary hoop... Oops, I don't mean to step on any toes/toews with my crazy left wing Darwinism. Word has it that El Duque teaches a mean creationist science class out in Altona.)
Anyway, it's going to be a fun year. And because I know that you folks in Manitoba miss The Koop so much, I'll be making my way out there for the third week in August. There just happens to be a game between the 2007 Grey Cup Champions and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on August 24th and I am proposing another Super Happy Fun CFL Pool sanctioned gathering/game. We did it two years ago and besides the extra shitty weather, it was a great time. (I guess I'll bring a toque this time, just in case.) So start planning.
Signed,
The Koop.
Hey, what happens in the event of a tie???
I seem to remember that in previous years, when a tie occurred you would get half the points that you had bet on for the game in question.

The Koop.
Yes Koopie, I do believe you are correct. Though not specifically mentioned in the official rules this did occur about 2-3 years ago and the points were split (i.e. if you had 3 on Wpg you got 1.5 or 4 on Edm you got 2). Made for some crappy half-point totals!
The downside is that nobody gets a perfect week either. Unless you picked the tie. Then you'd automatically win the Pool.
Half the points???? Do you know how long it will take people to figure that out?
Half the points was the Old Regime of the Czar, where you had to carve a favour out of an unbenevenolent dictator.
El Presidente, like Hugo Chavez, promises bread for the masses!!! I propose, in the event of a tie, eveyone gets the points they pick. We need increased scoring!! Please El Prez, give us bread!!!
El Presidente did promise change after the reign of terror and points-rigging scandal of the Czar finally came to an end. Will he be so bold as proclaiming that everyone gets their points in the case of a tie? It's a risky proposition and it could be both a career builder or destroyer. How would the public perceive such a move? Would they say that he's a man of the people? Or would they say that he's just El Duque's puppet? Interesting...
El Presidente?
Signed,
The Koop.
The masses have spoken!!!
And as a true Presidente of the People I declare that I'm not listening!
"Meet the new boss! Same as the old boss!" - Pete Townsend
Okay, so El Presidente's not listening, but I'm going to speak nevertheless. I was trying to think of an alternate idea. Let's face it, these ties don't happen very often. What are the chances of another tie this season? Pretty slim. So maybe we could try something like this:
Because there was no decision on a winner in the game, no one gets any points for that one. However, the next time Edmonton plays Winnipeg, we all get to use whatever number of points we used for the Edm/Wpg game this week on top of whatever number of points we choose to give that game.
It's kind of crazy and I don't know if it will really add any drama/excitment or just confuse everyone... But that's my idea.
Then again, El Presidente isn't listening.
Signed,
The Koop
El Presidente is really stretching it this time. 1/2 point ? Anyway, it is time to vote for our Super-Happy-Fun Pool Game of the Week. That would of course be the BC-Toronto game, right? What plays!
Wow! can our leader be right again with his comments about the rookies, especially with Pat in front and Sonya hitting the top 10 with a perfect week?
Poor Michael & Blair - no support for the Bombers? tsk tsk tsk
The Argos are back!
